The SpinCycle is an attachable devise for a bicycle, used for washing clothes in developing countries. It can be transported on the back of a bicycle or used to harness pedal power for washing clothes in a stationary position. The SpinCycle provides a better method of washing clothes than by hand in areas of the world which have limited access to electricity, as well as being a sustainable source of income for individuals running mobile laundry services as micro businesses.

The process…

The SpinCycle is cycled from one house to the next.

At each clients house the frame is rotated into the stationary washing position and the wash drum is removed.

The drum is reattached to the frame. The bicycle is then pedaled which spins the drum agitating the clothing to remove the dirt.

The clothes are removed and the dirty water is replaced with fresh water which is used to rinse the clothes before they are hung out to dry.

The frame is rotated back into the transit position for the process can be repeated.

An awesome invention – I’d actually love one of these! Have you thought about going on Dragon’s Den?

Found this via the Shell Live Wire, great idea and execution. How’s the project going?

I think this is an amazing invention, also it’s good exercise for your lower body, great for cardio. I’m wondering how it’s made and or if it’s made what are the prices for it..

Hi Stephanie, thanks for getting in touch. I’m currently working on a technical guide which will help people make their own version of the SpinCycle wherever they are in the world. I’ll keep you posted.

Actually this idea would save me from washing clothes like a maniac (don’t currently have a washing machine so I have to do it all by hand), this thing would save me a a little bit of trouble. Keep me posted as well if possible.

        Cheers.
